Data & Analytics: Transforming Law Firms with Bristol Law Society

We have all heard the buzz words – AI, machine learning, data analytics…but how do law firms manage, analyse and use data to deliver tangible results? On Wednesday 25th September IT project and change delivery experts, Nine Feet Tall and data science gurus, Mango Solutions delivered a practical workshop to top Bristol law firms. The collaboration was part of an ongoing relationship with Bristol Law Society.

A key challenge for firms remains in effectively harnessing the data collected on a daily basis. Whether firms are at the start of their data journey or have been working on delivering an insights approach for some time, the session helped to explore the key buzz words, which often cause confusion, break down the different types of analytic techniques available and when they might be useful and introduce a model to use when creating your approach to becoming a data-driven organisation.

Nine Feet Tall and Mango Solutions explained that to be successful when it comes to data-driven transformation in law firms; there are 5 key areas that firms need to consider:

  • Culture
  • Vision & strategy
  • Data & technology
  • Capability
  • Delivery

While the scale of challenge and importance of each element may differ from firm to firm, no data-driven transformation will be truly successful unless each one is considered.

The session also investigated the practical steps firms can take to move themselves up the maturity ladder towards being data-driven.

David Gardner, Deputy Director at Mango Solutions said, ‘It was great to see many law firms in Bristol represented at our workshop. It is clear that these firms have the desire and drive to transform and it was great to see challenges such identifying the problems we are trying to solve with data, the impact of legacy systems and finding the capacity to get involved in analytics, being shared and ideas and solutions discussed in an open environment.’

Tiggy Robinson, Partner at Nine Feet Tall commented ‘The session was a great success with lots of lively discussions. It was good to see so many firms engaged, coming out of the workshop armed with ideas and next steps to take back to their respective firms. It was clear from the workshop that firms were facing similar challenges when striving to become a data-driven and it was heartening to address these and find practical solutions for overcoming them.’
